BANFF IN THE WINTER

After two gorgeous weeks in Canada I made it back to the states. I jaunted off to NYC for new years, but I am definitely missing my Canadian travels while reflecting over the snow and sleigh rides last week. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a few of the photos I posted during my stay in the mountains over the Christmas holidays. It was my second visit to Canada this year but my first time in Banff and Calgary. Banff was more magical than I had anticipated. I settled into a beautiful cabin and setup shop with a gorgeous whirlpool tub and fireplace. It was the most perfect holiday vacation.

Since the sun sets earlier in the winter I spent most of my afternoons at the Fairmont Lake Louise and Fairmont Banff. Between both of the beautiful Fairmont properties with so many daily activities I found something to do everyday. In the winter they offer dog sledding, helicopter tours and ski/snowboarding. I enjoyed lots of sightseeing venturing a few hours outside of the village to experience more of the Canadian Rockies. I had a car which made it convenient for driving up to Jasper, Yoho National Park and Johnston Canyon to hike the waterfalls and capture scenic nature shots. The wildlife is too good to be true. I feel in love with this city more and more by the minute.

I really enjoyed having a cabin with a convenient chef’s kitchen. I love cooking so I prepared a feast each night, but I had to get away to steal a few bites while in town. My favorite restaurant was Bison. This place is undeniably good. From the impeccably observant and attentive staff, to the outstanding and pleasant management: it was superb! Their service is great. I highly recommend sitting in Ryan’s section. He and the manager, Jacob, will not steer you wrong. Another delicious place I loved was Rocky Mountain Pizza.  If you enjoy pizza you are in for a real treat. Fresh and local organics with delicious flatbed and you won’t go anywhere else. One last recommendation is Tapas a Spanish inspired fusion restaurant in Canmore. Tapas is located in a charming building with a quaint ambiance. Sharing different plates of food will give you a chance to experience lots of different dishes.

Since it was the holidays I spent quality time at home with family enjoying my Christmas dream vacation planning my next trip. This mountain town is perfect for kayaking and camping too so by the looks of it I will be back to visit again. A summer vacation here is starting to sound real nice.
