How To Decorate With Wallpaper

Since moving into a new home that is mostly dark wood and a bit moodier than my last all white modern house, I have been drawing inspiration from books, places and Pinterest to decorate each room. Still undecided what decor I’m going to use, I’m flirting with ways to freshen up one of the rooms in my house with floral wallpaper. My minimalistic Scandinavian style feels too simple for this quaint, cozy home now.

Choosing a room to change can be a lot of fun. If my dining room were just a tad bigger and separate from my kitchen that would be my first choice. But since I cannot make any renovations to my rental, and I have to work with what’s here, the bedroom or the office will have to do. If you are looking to make small changes to your house here are ways you can decorate with wallpaper to get you started.

Change can be scary especially when it’s outside of your comfort zone like wallpaper is for me. Although wallpaper can be chic and sophisticated. The key is deciding if you are going to transform one wall or all the walls in a particular room. Then choose a wallpaper and commit to it. I like the illusion of more space when I decorate so I prefer using wallpaper on only one wall and decorating the rest of the room with accents

Create a mood board that will help you visualize what you want your room to look like. Then choose exactly how you want to design the room.

The classic modern girl in me prefers a mix of white walls mixed with wallpaper. If you’re not adventurous enough to feature a focal accent wall in one of your rooms try wallpapering the ceiling and garnishing it with a chandelier. The good news is there are removable wallpaper options like Chasing Paper and Spoonflower that make it easy to apply and change wallpaper as needed.
