I’ve never been one to shy away from dresses. I prefer dresses to jeans and most of my outfits are paired with 5″ stilettos. After all, I’m a “girly-girl.” But there comes a time when practicality and functionality are more important. For me that time happened when I visited Canada. The temperature was somewhere between negative and freezing cold: I couldn’t tolerate the windchill so I stocked up on winter wardrobe to stay warm. My new clothing included lots of cashmere sweaters and a variety of flannels.

Flannels have been stylish for decades. Though I’ve worn them from time to time I’ve never owned my own flannels. Mostly I had used hand-me-downs from family members and friends passed down over generations in times like these when I needed warmer clothing for the winter. I’ve always liked the casual boho feel of flannels on a women so I can’t explain why I never purchased one of my own, but this winter I decided it was time to make a change.

I found this Rails LA flannel at Intermix NYC and loved it immediately. I really like Rails LA’s entire collection. Their creative direction via the website and their social media accounts hit a home run! They’ve perfected the art of styling a flannel.

If you are looking to buy a new flannel here is a list of other brands I really like as well.

Must Have Flannels
